How to Put Mindset Work On Autopilot
By Rachael Taylor
When you’re an entrepreneur, the list of things to do can seem overwhelming and paralyzing, especially at the beginning of starting a business. I spent my first two years with an online coaching business spiraling down a long list of actions that didn’t move me forward, convert clients and kept me in the same place financially month after month.
I knew the importance of having the right business mindset, but every time it was brought up my mind internally groaned with “Oh great, another thing I have to do!” and I of course, avoided doing it.
That began my mental tug of war of “I know I should, but I don’t have time. I know it will help, but it’s too much work. I’ve seen it work for other people, but I won’t work for me.” On and on until I finally found a way to automate my mindset work to get the ball rolling in the right direction.
Very often, we put off doing something because our mind sees the work it will take to get “x” goal, instead of the results. Because our mind automatically centers our thoughts on the work, our fears, doubts and insecurities are triggered and then it brings up all the reasons why it can’t happen.
Mindset work is creating a simple shift in focus and thinking to change your circumstances and have a different result – aka your current business v. your dream business.
Instead of giving you a long list of 50 things you have to do to change your thinking, I want you to learn one of the most important lessons in owning a business and being an entrepreneur.
Delegate, automate and eliminate.
You’re going to delegate what you need to change in your thinking to another source, you’re going to automate when this mindset reminder appears in your day, and you’re going to eliminate putting something else on your to-do list, because we both know that your day is full enough.
Ready to get started?
Your mindset will change with consistency, dedication and time, but it doesn’t have to be complicated and transformation happens faster than most people think.
Give it a thought, if in 30 days or 3 months you changed a belief or negative thought pattern that you’ve had your whole life, isn’t that a pretty fast ROI? (return on investment)
It’s time to create what you’ll be delegating. Think about your business and the biggest frustration you’re having right now.
I know there may be several, but for now look at only the biggest one. For most people, money or lack of it, tends to be the first thing that appears.
I don’t know where my next client is coming from
I’m not making enough money
My marketing isn’t working
I’m scared to put myself out there
My website isn’t ready yet, I don’t feel like it’s good enough
I worry about people being negative and mean online
I’m burned out by everything I’m doing
I feel stuck financially month after month
…are all common stressors and worries that we face as entrepreneurs, especially in the beginning when you’re building your platform and your confidence.
Right now your mind is focused on your problem and keeps repeating that worry over and over again, making it the center of your universe.
Now I’m not saying that you need to ignore your problem and switch over to a mental feed of sunshine, daisies and unicorns. I am saying, that you need to give your mind a break, because it’s exhausted thinking about everything that’s going wrong.
When you’re tired…
Creativity feels stumped
Emotional energy is low
…and you begin to feel burned out and discouraged that your business isn’t growing the way you want or need it to.
We’re going to train your mind to believe it can solve the problem, so it can then have the actual mental space to do just that. Change your mind, change your circumstances.
You will take your biggest business headache and turn it on its head. I’ll show you how from my above examples…
I may not have a new client yet, but I know that I’ll find them soon
I may not be where I want financially, but every day I get closer to that changing in my favor
I may not have perfect marketing, but I know that I’ll get better and find my sweet spot
It may be scary to show up as myself, but I know that my clients need what I have to offer
I may not have the perfect website, but I know that it won’t stop me from making money
People may say negative things, but I’m not going to let that stop me from reaching my goals
I may be burned out in my business, but I know that I’ll find a better, easier way to make money
I may not a lot of growth in my business right now, but every day is another opportunity for that to change
Take your phrase and put it in at least one of the following…
Computer wallpaper screen
Password for your computer/phone
Phrase or word after last name of Phone contacts
There are no wrong answers, choose any or all of the methods to place your phrase. It can be as simple or as a long as you want it to be.
For instance, if the above examples were too long for you here are some shortened versions…
New, pay-in-full clients are on their way to me
Every month I make more than enough money
My marketing is bringing the right people to me
It’s safe to be myself and offer value to others
It’s ok that my website is a work-in-progress
It’s safe to not be liked by everyone
There’s always an easier way to make money
Every day I get closer to my goals
For your digital calendars and phone alerts, simply plug in the phrase that your mindset needs to focus on and set it to go off at least twice a day. This way, you have the chance to read this change in thinking and it will stop any negative patterns that were happening.
Think of it like a scratch on a record, this phrase acts as an anchor for your new mindset and creates a pattern interrupt out of negative thinking and bad mindset habits.
If you’ve chosen a way to read your phrase that doesn’t require reminders, it’s even simpler. All you have to do is change the background, password or last name of whatever you choose and you’re set.
Since you have delegated and automated those that require that initial set-up, all that’s left to do is read your mindset shift out loud, day in and day out until you feel yourself start to believe it.
This isn’t something you can rush, but it is something that you can commit to changing. The secret to running a business is keeping things simple, and automating or delegating whenever you can, and that includes building the right mindset to be successful in business.
Don’t go about it by adding 10 mindset habits and tricks to your to-do list, instead take the easy road and automate it so you can keep shortening your list and stay true to your talents, passions and the tasks that have to be done in order for your business to be successful and thrive, month after month.
Remember, being an entrepreneur is a big adventure with limitless possibilities and potential but it requires you to grow, be bold and pull on courage to stand up to what’s in your way. Growing to a new level may not be comfortable, but it’s always worth it.
You have this dream for a reason and it’s the perfect time for you to chase it! Enjoy the journey and trust the process.
